# How does wheel width affect overall performance?
## Wider wheels improve handling and grip but can reduce gas mileage, acceleration, and braking performance.
Wheel width can have a noticeable impact on your vehicle’s performance. **Wider wheels** typically weigh more, which can slightly reduce gas mileage and affect acceleration and braking. On the other hand, wider wheels allow for **wider tires**, which improve handling and increase grip, especially during cornering and on skid pads.
Choosing the right wheel width is a balance between performance, efficiency, and the type of driving you plan to do. Wider wheels are great for better traction and handling, while narrower wheels can help with fuel economy and acceleration.
